NITUN PRIVATE RESERVE
Petén - Guatemala
Ni’tun was born in 1993. We started by leasing some land on the shores of Lake Petén Itzá. The designing, planning and building of Ni’tun’s facilities began then. We finished our main infrastructure in 1995 and opened our doors to visitors from around the world. Our main motivations are based in conservation ideals, environmentally friendly activities and in sharing our culture and love for nature with others. Our work has enabled us to actually own twenty hectares of protected land where many animals live, including many birds (as much as six different species of hummingbirds are Ni’tun’s residents and constant visitors).
Ni’tun is a perfect setting to assimilate the experiences lived through our tours and expeditions. Days spent in the jungle, trekking through the mud, watching birds and animals, learning about this immense natural pharmacy called rainforest are then ended by enjoying the crystalline waters of Lake Petén Itzá. We are very much concerned and involved in ecology, sustainability and conservation and that is why we take all the right steps to keep our lake waters pristine, our forest clean and our environment peaceful.
Ni’tun is part of APROBOSQUE, an association that is formed by all natural private reserves in Petén.
We are active members of ARNPG, The Association of Natural Private Reserves of Guatemala. Our Chief, Lorena is currently in the Board of such an important association.
